Frustrated and intimidated by the lack of beginner's guides actually written by beginners, I created this blog to give my fellow greenhorns the real beginner's guide to camping, hiking, and being generally outdoorsy. Getting advice from someone who routinely skis black diamonds, backpacks the Appalachian Trail, and considers hour long trail runs "short" is not exactly what I had in mind when I set out on learning more about the great outdoors. Their expert advice is duly noted and appreciated, but I wanted someone like me to tell me what gear and trails they like.
While I have now accepted REI as my lord and savior, my first trip there was pretty daunting. I immediately regretted the decision to wear pink and quickly felt like I was in over my head. Then, just when I felt like I was getting into the groove of being outdoorsy (first camping trip, first pair of hiking boots, first time having s'mores and beer for breakfast), I moved to Colorado. I was thrilled to explore everything that Colorado has to offer, but asking for help in a place where everyone was seemingly born with a pair of hiking shoes on their feet is fairly intimidating.
So I started this blog. Consider it your resource for everything you need to know about beginning your outdoor endeavors. That doesn't limit you to camping and hiking - in the last year, I've tried out snow sports, water sports, and running. I'm still no expert, but I've learned enough to hopefully help you get your own adventures started.
