Dogs have a way of making everything more fun, so it's not surprising that #adventuredog has become a thing. I've seen several lists of the "Best Adventure Dog Breeds," and for some reason, shelter dogs have yet to make a list. Shelter dogs are near and dear to my heart as an animal lover and volunteer at the Denver Animal Shelter, and I want to help spread the shelter dog love!
Bram is the first adoptable adventure dog to be featured on Outdoors Beginner. He is located at the Denver Animal Shelter, but I would also love to have guest posts from fellow animal lovers who know of pups that need homes in other parts of the country. Anyways, Bram is a six-year-old Lab mix that would make the perfect beginner adventure dog, since he needs to shed a few pounds and get into shape. Yes, he's six and a little overweight. No, he is not lazy and elderly. Bram is living proof that age is just a number! He is super affectionate, very social, and eager to get out and explore the world (or at least what he can explore on the shelter grounds!). We have a nice little gravel track out back of the shelter, and Bram's leash manners are pretty on point at both walking and jogging speeds.
He knows sit and lay down and is a quick learner, and despite his waist size, is not obsessed with food. Bram also enjoys playing fetch. He loves kicking back and relaxing just as much as being active - once you sit down, he's happy to hang out right next to you until you've both caught your breath.

Like any dog, Bram will need some follow-up obedience training - a home with structure is just as important as a home full of lots of love! The Denver Animal Shelter is located at 1241 W. Bayaud Ave in Denver, CO. They are open Monday - Friday from 10:30 am - 6:30 pm and from 10 am - 5 pm on Saturdays and Sundays. If you visit on a Saturday, please be patient. The office is a little understaffed (by no fault of their own) and are often responding to multiple demands at once. The furry love of your life is worth waiting for a few extra minutes!
